We have created our own in-house Skills Academy that offers a Modern Apprenticeship (NVQ) qualification in New Build Roofing. This two year integrated training programme combines on the job structured learning with contextualised off-site training at Forster’s Head Office with trainer Lindsay Kemp who has over 25 years’ experience within the industry.

Our first twelve apprentices joined in 2014 and have started their training, an additional seven apprentices joined the team in November 2015.
The qualification is the only of its kind to offer a wide range of roofing skills including solar installation, which is becoming increasingly sought after and offers huge potential for growth. We have also introduced a new Level 2 specialist up-skilling programme – ‘Slating for new-build’ – with our current apprentices having already completed section one on-site.
This qualification is designed specifically for new-build housing, and is supported by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and the Scottish Building Apprenticeship and Training Council (SBATC).
At the end of 2014 our Human Resources Director, Maureen Douglas was appointed by Nick Boles, Minister of State for Skills and Equalities onto the Construction Industry Training Board’s (CITB) new Board of Trustees, where she will have the opportunity to work with the new board to provide effective outcomes to the industry skills challenge across the UK.
The Skills Academy offers opportunities to those seeking a chance to develop new skills, learn a trade and be involved in an immensely experienced and thriving workplace at Forster Group.
